Turkey Taco Lettuce Wraps

Ingredients

1 tbsp olive oil

¾ cup chopped yellow onion

1 lb lean ground turkey (organic if possible)

2 cloves garlic

Taco seasoning (see recipe below)

Romaine lettuce leaves, doubled up for serving

Shredded Mexican cheese, diced Roma tomatoes, diced avocado, chopped cilantro, salsa, for serving.

Directions

  1. Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.

  2. Add onion and sauté 2-3 minutes.

  3. Add turkey and garlic, continue cooking, about 5 minutes, tossing and breaking up the turkey occasionally.

  4. Add taco seasoning and cook another 2-3 minutes.

  5. Serve mixture over lettuce leaves with desired toppings.

 

Recipe Notes

You can make the filling in advance and store in the fridge for a quick and easy lunch.

If you prefer your food spicier try adding hot sauce, more chili powder or red pepper flakes.

Iceberg or bib lettuce will also work well.

 

Taco Seasoning

Keep it clean and make your own taco seasoning at home! Recipe below is 1 serving. Make extra servings and store in a glass spice jar in the pantry and add to other dishes for a Mexican flavor.

Ingredients

1 tsp chili powder

1 tsp garlic powder

½ tsp paprika

½ tsp cumin

½ tsp onion powder

¼ tsp cayenne pepper

¼ tsp pepper

¼ tsp sea salt

¼ tsp oregano

 

Directions

Mix all of the seasonings together in a bowl. Add seasoning to 1 lb ground turkey, chicken or lean beef.
